For QRI Lifestyle's Administration and Membership Support Officer Jessica Sunderland, helping members make the most of their QRI membership is part of her everyday role. Many of you may have spoken to Jess when calling the QRI State Office, but recently, she swapped the phone for a passport and headed overseas for her very first international adventure to the stunning mountains and snowy landscapes of Queenstown, New Zealand.
Jess booked a week's accommodation through the New Zealand Railways Staff Welfare Trust, taking advantage of the reciprocal accommodation opportunities available through her QRI Lifestyle membership. A Home Among the Mountains Jess's Queenstown accommodation was extremely well priced at $560 for the week (not including linen), making it a fantastic option for her first overseas trip. The unit was in a great location, with a bus stop right outside the front door, making it easy to get into central Queenstown and explore the surrounding area. The location was also ideal for getting out and about, with easy access to adventures further afield, including the Remarkables ski fields and the beautiful town of Wānaka. The unit itself was well equipped with everything Jess needed for her week away. It was comfortable, practical and provided a great base to return to after busy days exploring the region. There was just one small challenge and that was the cold! With temperatures dropping as low as -4°C on some nights, Jess admitted she was a little chilly. Fortunately, she had planned ahead and used her QRI member benefits to help prepare for the trip. Making the Most of Her Member Benefits As this was Jess's first overseas holiday, she wanted to budget carefully and make her money go further. By using her QRI benefits before she left, Jess was able to make savings on her travel essentials and put those savings towards enjoying more experiences once she arrived in New Zealand. Jess explored the QRI Gratifii Rewards program before her trip and discovered that Experience Oz was offering a discount on a Queenstown jet boat experience. Although she didn't have enough time to fit the jet boat ride into her busy holiday schedule, it was a great example of the travel savings and experiences available through QRI member benefits. Adventures to Remember With her accommodation sorted and her travel essentials purchased, Jess was ready to experience everything Queenstown had to offer. One of the highlights of the trip was skiing at The Remarkables, where she got to experience the incredible snow-covered mountains and stunning alpine scenery that Queenstown is famous for. She also took a trip to Wānaka, where she saw the iconic Wānaka Tree, one of New Zealand's most photographed natural landmarks. For a little more excitement, Jess took on the ultimate adrenaline rush with a bungee jump at AJ Hackett. It's safe to say her first overseas trip was anything but boring! Of course, no holiday is complete without enjoying some good food, and Jess also made time to experience the local dining scene, including a meal at The Terrace, by Roki.
