Capture the Moment: QRI’s Digital Photography Competition

Date:
By Tanya Heath

One of the most exciting things about working at QRI is watching our members bring their creativity to life. Every year, the QRI Digital Photography Competition inspires us all. It has been said ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ So it’s not just about photos; it’s about telling stories, seeing the world through new perspectives, and celebrating the wonderful talent of our members.

This year’s competition runs until Friday 31 October 2025, and we’re inviting all QRI members to get involved. Whether you’re a keen hobbyist or just love snapping shots on your phone, this is your chance to shine.

Why Enter?

We’ll be choosing twelve winners in total across six different categories. Each winner will receive a $50 gift voucher and a QRI Lifestyle 2026 Calendar in which the winner’s photos will feature.

So, throw your hat in the ring! Your photograph could be hanging in kitchens, offices, and homes across the State – a special way to share some joy with your fellow members.

The Categories

I’ve shared some of my own photos in each of the competition categories,  Modes of Transport, Just One Object, Portraits, Landscape, Macro and Animals.  This is to give you some inspiration before you enter.

The six categories are:

Modes of Transport – Capture the energy of movement, from trains and planes to bicycles, boats, and beyond.

Just One Object – Focus on a single subject and explore how lighting, composition, or perspective can change the story.

Portraits – Bring out personality and character by capturing the details of a face or expression.

Landscape – From sweeping coastlines to cityscapes or hidden corners of nature, show us the spirit of the outdoors.

Macro – Get up close to reveal the intricate details of life — flowers, insects, water droplets, or even textures.

Animals – Share the beauty of the animal kingdom, whether it’s a candid pet shot or wildlife in its natural setting.

You can submit up to two photos (but can only win one prize), so pick your best and let your creativity do the talking.

Gear Up for the Competition

Great photography doesn’t always depend on having the latest or most expensive gear, but sometimes the right tools can help bring your vision to life. That’s why we encourage members to make the most of QRI’s Program Partners and member discounts to save on equipment and accessories.

Here are a few smart ways you can prepare:

  • The Good Guys Commercial – As a QRI Program Partner, The Good Guys Commercial gives members access to incredible deals on cameras, lenses, mobile phones, and accessories. It’s an easy way to shop smarter and save on big-ticket items.
  • Discounted Gift Cards – Don’t forget, members can also purchase discounted gift cards through QRI for some of Australia’s biggest retailers, including Big W, Myer, and Kmart. These are perfect for picking up memory cards, tripods, camera bags, or even a new smartphone. A little saving goes a long way when it comes to your photography setup.

By combining these options, you can make sure you’re equipped with everything you need without stretching the budget.

More Than Just a Competition

If you’ve never entered before, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a go. Sometimes the most memorable photos aren’t the ones that are technically perfect, but the ones that convey emotion and meaning. And remember, you don’t need a professional camera to create a winning shot. Many of our past winners have taken their entries on a smartphone.

How to Enter

It’s simple:

  1. Take your best shot in one (or two) of the six categories. Photos can be black and white or colour.
  2. Head to the entry form online: Click here to enter.
  3. Upload your photo(s) with the details requested.

Don’t forget entries must be submitted by Friday 31 October 2025.

A Final Word from the QRI Team

This competition brings out the best of what QRI is all about - connection, creativity, and celebrating our community. Whether you’re inspired by landscapes, portraits, or the smallest details in everyday life, your photo can make us see the world a little differently.

So, grab your camera, your phone, or your favourite lens and get out there. Experiment, have fun, and capture the moments that matter most to you. We can’t wait to see your entries lighting up the 2026 QRI Lifestyle Calendar.

Good luck, and happy shooting!
